When an individual chooses to own and operate a motorcycle, they need to be aware of the dangerous risks associated with this form of transportation. Motorcyclists can suffer serious injuries if they are involved in accidents, and these accidents can even be fatal. Motor vehicle drivers should be expected to see an influx of motorcyclists on the roadways during the current fall weather.
An unfortunate motorcycle accident unfolded on Sunday that left the motorcyclist dead in Austin, Texas. The accident occurred around 7 p.m. in East Austin. A motorcyclist was heading south on Montopolis Drive when he ran into the front of a Dodge Stratus. The motor vehicle was turning out of Hogan Avenue when the collision took place.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the motorcyclist on the ground and unresponsive. The impact of the motorcycle accident had caused him to become airborne. He was immediately transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
The two individuals who were in the motor vehicle did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Austin Police are investigating the fatal collision to determine if alcohol was a factor. At this time no charges have been filed.

Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell is among 275 mayors in the state and many other across the country declaring the month of May to be Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
Last year, there were 470 deaths in motorcycle crashes in Texas. In at least half of these, an automobile driver did not see the motorcyclist, leading to a fatal accident.
To work towards increasing motorcycle safety, the Texas Department of Transportation is providing the state with 10,000 “Share the Road” signs to remind drivers to be wary of motorcyclists.
